Fandango’s Provocative Question #78

Do you believe that students should be required to return to school for the new school year? If you are a parent, are you at all concerned about sending your children to school? Or are you relieved to get the little rugrats out of your hair?

Oh, my what a question? Being a sixty-something oldie I am so glad I don’t have to make this decision. However, being a Grandmother, I hope and pray that there is no second-wave and we get back to a near normal life as soon as possible.

However, on saying that… what I have witnessed recently, social-distancing here in the UK has gone by the wayside. The markers are in the shops, for the one-way system.. but nobody follows the arrows. People are leaning over you and beside you to get essentials. Some are abiding by social distancing but the vast majority of people are not.

Children are now playing with their mates and hanging around the local chippie. Social-distancing is something that everyone did abide by at the beginning.. but now.. 2 metres is more like two foot.

Children that kept indoors and families that are abiding by the rules, are suffering from the isolation. But how long can you really isolate for. Covid is not going away however much we wish it would bugger off, and we can’t keep kids isolated for ever and we can’t run an economy with limited resources. And there has to be a day when we start to open up the schools. Maybe September is as good as month as any. With the lack of social distancing that I am witnessing if there is going to be a second wave, it will hit before September. So there is still time, to lockdown the schools if necessary.

Maybe local lockdowns are the way to go.

We must try and get back to a near normal life. I know, and I am an adult, how isolated this time has been. So how do you explain it to children? I have felt depressed, and wished Covid would bugger off and never come back. I long for the day, when I don’t have to worry about sanitising my hands or standing too close to a person.

With how social distancing is breaking down.. perhaps it is time for children to return to school! Who knows? Perhaps it is a case of you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
