In my life, I’ve travelled a lot of short-haul flights but never have I been on a 12hr long-haul flight. At first, I was a bit hesitant but I wanted to do our train tour of the west coast of the USA which started in San Francisco.
The night before our flight which left early afternoon, we stayed in a hotel not far from Terminal 5 Heathrow. With check-in being at least 4 hrs before flight we arrived at the airport to meet our Tour host who helped check us in.
I’ll never forget taking off… and the roar of those engines… we flew up towards Scotland and then over Greenland before heading back down into the USA and landing at San Francisco International.
Disembarking was easy and swift… mind you, seeing passport control officers with guns seemed strange to me. I know we saw armed police at Heathrow but to see that number of firearms, and so many people working security being armed.
We departed early lunchtime and arrived in San Francisco at 7pm …. even though we never slept during the flight the adrenaline and excitement in us… didn’t make us feel that it was really 3am UK time.
However, we did feel it, when the phone went at 3am San Francisco time and Three rang and offered us a phone upgrade ๐ ๐ ๐
The flight back home… after 15 days, seemed longer, even though it was quicker. Travelling there it was daylight all the way.
I dream of doing that flight again… only this time I would use a proper camera to capture images… and not a mobile phone.
